About the role

SOUP is a micro-fundraising event where different community organisations and groups come and pitch their projects/ideas to an audience of local community members, with a view to winning the proceeds from the night (determined by votes from the audience).

As part of the night everyone enjoys a delicious dinner of Soup and some musical entertainment. You could be involved in the day in a number of ways:

  • Supporting on the night – set up and pack down, preparing the dinner, hosting the space, serving dinner or drinks, building relationships with clients and community members.
  • Performing – providing the night’s musical entertainment.
  • Supporting planning of the event – reaching out to potential pitchers (e.g. community groups or projects), organising the logistics of the night, marketing the event.

About you

To support us on the evening you won’t need any previous experience or knowledge. We’re simply looking for people who love working with people, who align with our values and who, most importantly, are open to learning.

If you’re looking to perform you will need some musical talent. Similarly if you’re looking to support the planning of the event you’ll need some basic IT skills, good communication and some planning skills.

Commitment

A Wednesday evening every 2-3 months. Set-up usually starts at about 3pm but you can also join us after work if that’s the earliest you can make it. The night runs until roughly 9.30pm.

For those looking to be involved in planning the event, this is something you can do in your own time, with a bit of regular communication with the event’s coordinator Amy in normal working hours (Monday-Friday).

Support and Learning

You’ll receive support from our Community Lead and volunteer coordinator to link into the event, and be part of team pre- and post-session meetings on the day.

As with all our volunteer opportunities, you’ll also have access to a range of free, formal training opportunities including Mental Health First Aid, The Care Certificate and First Aid.

We are not taking on volunteers at this time

In light of Covid-19, our community wellbeing centre is closed until we feel we are able to re-open safely. Unfortunately this means that we are not taking on volunteers at this time. However we encourage you to return to our website in a few months time to see if any changes have been made.
